3D Application Boxes

As part of the design requirements for the upcoming release of Terian ID Creator I needed to produce some software application boxes. Graphical design work isn’t my usual forte, so even the simplest of tasks tend to take longer than they probably should. After the best part of a day the end results have met my expectations, and I’m more than happy with the result…

How the magic happens, Blender and Photoshop:

Previously the 3D box art for www.terian.co was produced manually with Adobe Photoshop, however as part of the plans for the future site redesign I required an easier way to manipulate a 3D model. Enter Blender, Blender is a free 3D creation tool for both PCs and Macs that has a great support community. Fortunately for me there are also plenty of tutorial videos available on Youtube.

A quick Google search, produced exactly what I required; a tutorial (Create 3D Software Box in Blender and Photoshop) by designcourse. This tutorial explained everything required, so it was simply a case of following the tutorial. Almost an entire day later including multiple replays of various aspects of the tutorial I am more competent using Blender and finally produced the above sample.

I have certainly learned a great deal over the past 24 hours, not only in regards to using Blender but I have also honed my skills with Photoshop and Illustrator. The good news is, the time spent learning here will transfer over when it is time to produce the box art for Terian ID Creator (which should be very soon).
